Impression sclerals are indicated for highly distoreted cornea (the black portion) and sclera (the white portion). This can be due to many reasons like injury, burns, glacouma shunts, ocular surface diseases, post surgical corneas like coreal grafts and etc,. 

 

The process involves taking a impression of eye using bio compatible silicone dye. the impression taken with dye will have just about 2 to 3 microns difference. The impression is sent to lab where 3D scanning is done and the lenses are made. The lenses made such can comply the exact scleral shape which can be seen from the pictures shown.

Because of the perfect alingnment the comfort of wearing a lens on highly distorted ocular surface can be achieved.

Also, the optics of the lens can also be very well designed due to pecision.
